Grab Bag

Sometimes you miss nominations and don't think about asking for your Babu Frik/Jacen Solo tag before the deadline. Sometimes you can't fit all the requests you want into your sign-up. Sometimes you see something you wanted after sign-ups have closed. Sometimes you want to leave an anonymous request for a pairing you have no intention of admitting you ship. Sometimes you want a crossover request that would be outside the bounds of the regular exchange nominations but you know in your heart that Vader/Dobby is the greatest ship of all time and space. Sometimes you pinch hit and would like to throw your hat in the ring to ask for the story of Grogu and Anakin's excellent adventures.

This post is for those extra requests, one request per comment, no limit on the number of comments you leave. You can provide as much or as little detail as you want; if you would like your treat to be gifted to you, you should include your AO3 name. Fills to the grab bag can be posted to the regular collection, but should be labeled in the tags or the notes that the fill is for a grab bag request. In cases where the requester has chosen to remain anonymous, these can be gifted to the mod account, or they can be posted without a recipient.

You do not have to have signed up for the exchange to leave a grab bag request.

We will be running matching shortly. If you are unmatchable (as in you have no one to create for who has requested what you are offering) we will contact you via the email associated with your AO3 account to ask you to add offers. Please check your email and your spam filter.

Nominations are closed but we can still manually add last minute tags to the tag set if you reply to this post with the tags in the requested format.

Nominations questions:

"Kad Ha'rangir/Mand'alor of Choice" - What are you trying to nominate?

Countdown to end of signups

Now is a great time to look through the Sign Up Summary or the Automagic App to browse requests to offer. You must have someone you are able to create for. We will attempt to contact anyone who is unmatchable (no possible recipient) but if you ensure you have offered things other people are requesting, this will be a much easier process for everyone.

If you have specific matching needs, you can email the mods at maythe4thmod@gmail.com.

A few reminders:

- We can only enforce Do Not Wants in your AO3 signup, not DNWs which solely appear in your letter. Do Not Wants are a brief (or not) list of things you do not want to appear in your gift and should be labelled clearly. A set of prompts and a list of things you would like in your gift are both optional but can be helpful to your creator especially as this is what will be sent to them for their assignment. As a reminder, the prompts you give are optional for your creator to fill. Giving your creator several ideas to work with is more likely to result in a gift you're happy with than if you only give one prompt.

- Make sure your letter is visible and unlocked if you have one. Also remember that sometimes letters hosted on an external site may not be available to everyone. All important information should be in your AO3 signup.

- Do not use your Do Not Wants as "railroading" your writer or artist (ex: "Do Not Want anything except E-rated AU where Anakin is a catboy").

- Please remember to state if you are open to treats and have treating enabled on your AO3 profile. You can check here: https://archiveofourown.org/users/YOURNAMEHERE/preferences in the Collections, Challenges, and Gifts section. Make sure you have checked the toggle for "Allow anyone to gift me works" if you are open to receiving treats.

Update: 2026 & 2027 Plans

Feb. 12th, 2026 09:29 pm

[personal profile] inkvoices posting in [community profile] be_compromised
Hi All, we’ve been doing some planning for events in 2026 - and for our upcoming 15th birthday in 2027! Read on if you’d like some things to look forward to…

For this year (2026):
- All The Things Friday (ATTF) has been revived and runs throughout the year on the comm discord
- Fic Book Club has been revived and runs throughout the year on the comm discord
- Mini promptathon of love and joy is now live on dreamwidth (no account needed)
- We’ll of course be doing a big summer promptathon (late July/early August to end September) on dreamwidth (no account needed)
- a small virtual con: planning is underway, this is likely to also be in summer and on the comm discord
- halloween trick or treat prompt challenge (October) on dreamwidth (no account needed)
- end of year secret santa fic exchange (sign ups usually start of October) on AO3 with some sign up details required on dreamwidth (no account needed)

In 2026 to be ready for 2027:
- By popular vote, we’re planning a Remix Exchange (dates TBC but in 2027). If you’d like to take part you’ll need to have written a minimum of three fics with Clint and/or Natasha in them and at least one of those must feature both Clint and Natasha, so if you haven’t already then 2026 is your chance! (A remix is essentially fanfic of fanfic; for a remix exchange you write fanfic of someone else’s fanfic, and someone writes fanfic of yours. As an example, this is what we did in 2022.)
- And we’ll be planning a zine on the comm discord, celebrating 15 years of our community, clintasha, and Clint and Nat as characters. We aim to have this ready for the 15th birthday at the start of May 2027.

In 2027:
As well as the above and our usual events, and potentially another, larger virtual con if this year goes well, depending on time and volunteers we’re also looking at doing:
- A big MCU rewatch (or at least the ones with Clint and Nat) throughout the year, on the comm discord
- A ‘15 Challenge’, involving writing 150, 1500, or 15,000 words. Or 15 x 150 words, or… you get the idea! Likely with organisation on dreamwidth (no account needed) and/or AO3

Have fun and celebrate with us on discord, tumblr, dreamwidth, and AO3 (Community: be_compromised tag and Collections)! <3
As voted for on the comm discord, we’re back with a mini promptathon!

What is this? It’s like the big summer promptathon, only a shorter version. It's a fun, no-pressure event where you can post zero to as many prompts as you like, zero to as many fills as you like, and join in the squee or just quietly enjoy the fun.

Why ‘love and joy’? Originally this annual mini event was Valentine’s themed, but it’s grown to include International Fanworks day, celebrating various new years, and getting back into the swing of things. We welcome themes in prompts and/or fills of romance, valentines, galentines, friendship, supporting each other, celebrations - but mostly, the point is that this is a little celebration of fandom love and joy.

TIMELINE

Now: we're open for prompts
Friday 20 February: you can start leaving fills (and continuing prompting)
Midnight (whatever your timezone) Sunday 15 March: promptathon is finished and we make a masterlist

HOW TO PLAY

1. Leave your prompt in a comment to this Dreamwidth post. Please post each prompt in its own separate comment. Prompts can be anything. You can re-use prompts from past events if you like, whether they were filled or not. You can leave as many prompts as you like. (Yes, seriously.)

You don’t need a Dreamwidth account - anonymous comments are enabled. If you comment anonymously please consider including your online handle(s) in your comment so we can credit you for prompts and gift fills to you.

2. You can post fills for prompts at any time from Friday 20 February by replying in a comment to the prompt. The subject line of your comment should be: FILL: title, rating.

At the start of your comment please include:
> Title
> Your online handle(s) (if you don't have a dreamwidth account)
> Rating (ie film ratings or AO3 style ratings)
> Any warnings OR you can say ‘choose not to warn’ (think about the AO3 warnings or take a look at our comm guidance if you’re stuck)

You can post your entire fanwork in the comment if it’s short enough AND/OR you can post your fanwork anywhere else on the internet and post a link to it in your comment.

Following these guidelines 1) makes it easier for people to find your fills during the event as a one-stop shop, and know what they’re clicking on and 2) makes it a LOT easier for your mods to create a masterlist at the end, without missing any of your fills. Thank you!

There’s no length requirement on fanworks submitted and you can create any type of fanwork. You can fill as many prompts as you want, and prompts can be filled multiple times by whoever wants to fill them. If you don't manage to finish your fill during the event, please do still share, it just won't be counted in the masterlist.

3. Sharing the joy! If you post your fill on tumblr, tag #be_compromised or #clintasha, or @ the comm tumblr and we'll reblog. If you’re posting on AO3, we have a ‘Community: be_compromised’ tag. And we'll post a masterlist of all fills on dreamwidth and tumblr after the event.

RULES

1) Our community rules apply to this event and everyone taking part in it. You do not need to be a member of our community or have a dreamwidth account (or any other specific account) to be involved.

2) As in the community rules, all fills must have a rating and a warning/'no warning applies'/'choose not to warn'. Consider including a warning for spoilers of any media that's been released in the last 6 months or so; not everyone has Disney+ or can get to the cinema.

3) We ask for fills to contain at least a mention of Clint and/or Natasha in some way because we love them, but the whole, wide Marvel Universe is yours to play in. We welcome other characters and pairings (and threesomes or moresomes).

Thank you!

If you have any questions please comment in the 'Questions' thread at the top of this post or contact a mod - inkvoices, CloudAltas aka franztastisch, and gsparkle. You're also very welcome to join us on discord and tumblr.

Back in August of 2025, we announced a temporary block on account creation for users under the age of 18 from the state of Tennessee, due to the court in Netchoice's challenge to the law (which we're a part of!) refusing to prevent the law from being enforced while the lawsuit plays out. Today, I am sad to announce that we've had to add South Carolina to that list. When creating an account, you will now be asked if you're a resident of Tennessee or South Carolina. If you are, and your birthdate shows you're under 18, you won't be able to create an account.

We're very sorry to have to do this, and especially on such short notice. The reason for it: on Friday, South Carolina governor Henry McMaster signed the South Carolina Age-Appropriate Design Code Act into law, with an effective date of immediately. The law is so incredibly poorly written it took us several days to even figure out what the hell South Carolina wants us to do and whether or not we're covered by it. We're still not entirely 100% sure about the former, but in regards to the latter, we're pretty sure the fact we use Google Analytics on some site pages (for OS/platform/browser capability analysis) means we will be covered by the law. Thankfully, the law does not mandate a specific form of age verification, unlike many of the other state laws we're fighting, so we're likewise pretty sure that just stopping people under 18 from creating an account will be enough to comply without performing intrusive and privacy-invasive third-party age verification. We think. Maybe. (It's a really, really badly written law. I don't know whether they intended to write it in a way that means officers of the company can potentially be sentenced to jail time for violating it, but that's certainly one possible way to read it.)

Netchoice filed their lawsuit against SC over the law as I was working on making this change and writing this news post -- so recently it's not even showing up in RECAP yet for me to link y'all to! -- but here's the complaint as filed in the lawsuit, Netchoice v Wilson. Please note that I didn't even have to write the declaration yet (although I will be): we are cited in the complaint itself with a link to our August news post as evidence of why these laws burden small websites and create legal uncertainty that causes a chilling effect on speech. \o/

In fact, that's the victory: in December, the judge ruled in favor of Netchoice in Netchoice v Murrill, the lawsuit over Louisiana's age-verification law Act 456, finding (once again) that requiring age verification to access social media is unconstitutional. Judge deGravelles' ruling was not simply a preliminary injunction: this was a final, dispositive ruling stating clearly and unambiguously "Louisiana Revised Statutes §§51:1751–1754 violate the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, as incorporated by the Fourteenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution", as well as awarding Netchoice their costs and attorney's fees for bringing the lawsuit. We didn't provide a declaration in that one, because Act 456, may it rot in hell, had a total registered user threshold we don't meet. That didn't stop Netchoice's lawyers from pointing out that we were forced to block service to Mississippi and restrict registration in Tennessee (pointing, again, to that news post), and Judge deGravelles found our example so compelling that we are cited twice in his ruling, thus marking the first time we've helped to get one of these laws enjoined or overturned just by existing. I think that's a new career high point for me.

I need to find an afternoon to sit down and write an update for [site community profile] dw_advocacy highlighting everything that's going on (and what stage the lawsuits are in), because folks who know there's Some Shenanigans afoot in their state keep asking us whether we're going to have to put any restrictions on their states. I'll repeat my promise to you all: we will fight every state attempt to impose mandatory age verification and deanonymization on our users as hard as we possibly can, and we will keep actions like this to the clear cases where there's no doubt that we have to take action in order to prevent liability.

In cases like SC, where the law takes immediate effect, or like TN and MS, where the district court declines to issue a temporary injunction or the district court issues a temporary injunction and the appellate court overturns it, we may need to take some steps to limit our potential liability: when that happens, we'll tell you what we're doing as fast as we possibly can. (Sometimes it takes a little while for us to figure out the exact implications of a newly passed law or run the risk assessment on a law that the courts declined to enjoin. Netchoice's lawyers are excellent, but they're Netchoice's lawyers, not ours: we have to figure out our obligations ourselves. I am so very thankful that even though we are poor in money, we are very rich in friends, and we have a wide range of people we can go to for help.)

In cases where Netchoice filed the lawsuit before the law's effective date, there's a pending motion for a preliminary injunction, the court hasn't ruled on the motion yet, and we're specifically named in the motion for preliminary injunction as a Netchoice member the law would apply to, we generally evaluate that the risk is low enough we can wait and see what the judge decides. (Right now, for instance, that's Netchoice v Jones, formerly Netchoice v Miyares, mentioned in our December news post: the judge has not yet ruled on the motion for preliminary injunction.) If the judge grants the injunction, we won't need to do anything, because the state will be prevented from enforcing the law. If the judge doesn't grant the injunction, we'll figure out what we need to do then, and we'll let you know as soon as we know.

I know it's frustrating for people to not know what's going to happen! Believe me, it's just as frustrating for us: you would not believe how much of my time is taken up by tracking all of this. I keep trying to find time to update [site community profile] dw_advocacy so people know the status of all the various lawsuits (and what actions we've taken in response), but every time I think I might have a second, something else happens like this SC law and I have to scramble to figure out what we need to do. We will continue to update [site community profile] dw_news whenever we do have to take an action that restricts any of our users, though, as soon as something happens that may make us have to take an action, and we will give you as much warning as we possibly can. It is absolutely ridiculous that we still have to have this fight, but we're going to keep fighting it for as long as we have to and as hard as we need to.

I look forward to the day we can lift the restrictions on Mississippi, Tennessee, and now South Carolina, and I apologize again to our users (and to the people who temporarily aren't able to become our users) from those states.
